I was disappointed to see the email this morning as well. With all of the startups, vc’s, and code loving geeks in CO – I’m really surprised that CO would take such a step backwards. I know many affiliate marketers that aren’t happy and what’s worse is that they may now have to change their business models quickly or add to the unemployment rate.

I guess we’ll see what how this will affect them as well as brick and mortars.

I too was surprised to find this email and a nonworking storefront this morning. I”m out two storefronts, which I paid income taxes on the revenue to colorado, and having some income, used it to buy locally esp. groceries and gas. what now?? well, no income tax to the state, and no local buying from me, and the consumer of my software products and artbooks? they NEVER came from colorado, they come from all over the WORLD, they most certainly will not buy locally in denver or colorado springs, and the thought that this has any upside is ridiculous. i pray they reverse this immediately. it is truly a mistake!!

My Amazon Associates account was terminated and I also support Amazon in this issue.

Colorado is losing revenue and Coloradoans are losing revenue. Tax competition is here to stay. We’re not tied to doing business in Colorado like a bunch of serfs. If Colorado doesn’t want us, we can do business elsewhere.

It costs retailers plenty to track tax rates of all the states and counties and all the constant tax changes within each state. In anticipation of doing the same as Colorado, Washington state now requires all retailers to tax shipped items at the DESTINATION rate within the state, instead of the point of origination. This requires on each shipped sale, we have to stop our process, go online, look up the tax code and rate of the customer, (not always available & there are over 400 rates in the state) print out the proof we looked it up, enter the information of the new tax code into our program and then complete the invoice. It’s added at least 10-15 minutes of process time to each shipped sale. This is your wonderful government at work helping business while continuing to find even more ways to tax.
