Almost everything here makes sense and reflects issues I am also having.

Still, I don’t get exactly what you use the Samsung for. As a wireless access point for your iPhone coupled with it being your respective local phone? Doesn’t this get expensive also? Why don’t you buy an unlocked iPhone outside the US and then simply replace the SIM card? ATT told me I could keep my unlimited plan and simply put my old card in the new iPhone 4. I have not tried it but if it works I think it would then do all you do with two phones, but this time with the iPhone.

Yes, it still is a pain to collect all these SIM cards and replace them, and then to forward all these phone numbers to the one number that you happen to carry right now. No perfect solution.

SingTel offers an unlimited global roaming data plan for S$600. This sounds like a lot, but then an ATT bill can easily reach US$300 also. I reckon that for 4 weeks in 3 countries I pay about US$300 on top of my regular US bill, including data plan and various pre-paid phone service. It would get more expensive if I add more countries.
