Brian, I generally agree with your comments about Analytics in the HR space. Many apps are nothing more than display or reporting tools with dashboards. Much of the reason for this is the thirst is not there yet.
For example I am the founder of a Predictive Analytics Company, PearlHPS. We just completed 12,000 hours of research connecting the dots between Leadership Capability ( what we call team leadership quantification) in teams and business outcomes (financial and operational) Yes, we can accurately predict business outcomes. I would think many in HR would be interested and driving to learn more.
The reality is most of your contact is coming from senior line executives who own the responsibility for the outcomes and want to drive to a better result 12 months out. It is somewhat surprising to me because I thought the HR/OD function would be all over this game changing capability.
As a result I have started targeting senior line executives and those places they go to learn about new approaches and tools that enable their success.
Bottom line, there is great need for new tools that work in the new business environment we find ourselves in, including analytics/predictive actionable analytics. I hope those out there in development mode continue to drive moving the needle of progress ahead and are bold enough to begin looking at the connection between functional activities in HR and the business drivers so prediction becomes high value. Then the partnership between HR and the P&L owners can be built on common ground.
