Our death has, in Mark Twain’s words, been greatly exaggerated, particularly among those with a financial interest in our failure at Intel, the Wall Street Journal, and The Economist. For example, the Peru study that showed a six-month improvement in cognitive skills among our students has been cited as evidence that the program is a total failure because it did not affect scores on certain standardized tests.

As Upton Sinclair put it, it is extremely difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it.
