Time For Tiedosta: To Know About Knowledge

Time For Tiedosta: To Know About Knowledge

By Esteban Kolsky on July 8, 2014

In the late 1999 and into early 2000 I was the CTO for a startup. The product was ahead of its time (“can you put it in an email?” it the comment from a VC that still haunts me to this day — as if) and it was a platform play.  Inconsequential to this post. […]

A Social Knowledge Framework

A Social Knowledge Framework

By Esteban Kolsky on August 9, 2013

Following up, and wrapping up actually, on the short series I have been publishing on social media as an interim (but essential) step towards collective knowledge I’d like to cover a draft version of the framework I see for social knowledge. You hopefully have been keeping up, reading all about the evolution to social knowledge, the definition […]

Data, Information, and Knowledge

By Denis Pombriant on July 10, 2013

Data, Information, and Knowledge I still see far too many examples of content confusing the ideas of data and information.  Sometimes, it seems like a writer is simply trying to not be redundant when he or she uses data and information in the same sentence to mean the same thing.  But of course they are […]

May I Recruit Your Help in a Knowledge Management Research Project?

May I Recruit Your Help in a Knowledge Management Research Project?

By Esteban Kolsky on February 8, 2013

Late in 2011 I conducted my first market research project on Knowledge Management. I wanted to get an idea of what was going on in the world, what projects you (royal you, not you personally) were working on, what projects you were going to invest money in, and (more than anything) what was affecting your […]

Social Business Intelligence: Positioning a Strategic Lens on Opportunity

Social Business Intelligence: Positioning a Strategic Lens on Opportunity

By Dion Hinchcliffe on September 1, 2011

Recently I’ve been tracking the growth of social analytics and the means of delivering well on it. Connecting it to the needs of the business is the next step beyond basics of collating, aggregating, and identifying patterns in what the world is doing that affects your organization. On ZDNet recently, I explored the rapidly growing trend of big data. Collectively, big data represents a set of highly innovative new ways that companies are developing to distill value from the sheer scale, richness, and complexity of today’s vast networks of people and their data, of which the Internet is just the biggest example. It is social media in particular, however, where big data and business value intersect.

Knowledge Sharing - The "New" Power in the Enterprise

Knowledge Sharing – The "New" Power in the Enterprise

By Michael Fauscette on April 6, 2011

I grew up with the concept that knowledge is power and that hoarding knowledge could lead to a strong power base in an organization. That’s not an unusual view from the recent past and fits a hierarchical structure inside a…

Is Social the Future of Knowledge? Help Me Find Out

Is Social the Future of Knowledge? Help Me Find Out

By Esteban Kolsky on March 1, 2011

There has been a lot of discussion lately about the role of Knowledge and Knowledge Management in the age of Social. I am not going to offer links here, sorry, since I consider most of the entries out there to be hype-full and wrong. Yes, I am entitled to my opinion. I have not seen […]

By Phil Wainewright on May 18, 2010

Technology changes such as cloud computing and social networking are usually looked at in isolation, but their impact on the nature of business is part of a bigger picture that encompasses a raft of Web-enabled technology factors. The big picture…
